Success - What is it really?
Again in today's lecture Tahir Khalid, he asked the audience "What is success according to you? When I ask you to name a few successful people, who is the first person that comes to your mind?". After having said this, he pointed to one of the guys sitting in the audience. The guy said "Bill Gates!". Tahir laughed. "Did you all hear that? He said Bill Gates. I dont blame any of you. It is how you have been taught and you have been made to beleive. You have been made to believe that if you have earned both money and fame in this world, you are successful."
Unfortunately, and sadly this is very true. Each one of us is made to beleive that success lies in the hands of those people who have managed to make money and fame. Why do we beleive so? Is it really success?
We fail to realize our true purpose of existance, when we try to reach for these meanings in life. However, it is also true to understand that one cannot do without these worldly gains. One cannot survive without them.
The secret to true success is to be able to balance the two. Live your true purpose (serve Allah) and also work for your selves.
Its not very easy to reach it, its not very hard either. The only tool that is necessary is the 'Will'.

Yeah and when its like "Bill Gates" he was like thanks for your honesty
and it was great how many ppl turned up, just hope that most of them let this stuff penetrate. They cancelled lectures for it too...and thank God they finally gave him some water and a chair!
ok now back to the serious part, its even hard to realize how difficult it is to balance these 2 things, materialistic as well as ur spiritual side/ur iman, without becoming too attached to the worldly stuff...(btw i dont think i could survive without my car..thats bad enough huh? and what about my foundation? oh Gosh!) I truly need to renew my priorities...HELP!

To begin with, when I said 'wordly gains' I was basically refering to the 'money' factor. In the olden days, u dint need money to get food. You walk out of ur cave and kill an animal and feed ur family. The case is not the same today.
Today, if u want food, clothing and shelter (even if in the smallest quatity) u have to earn money. To earn money, u need qualifications. For qualifications u need to study. etc..
U might say there r jobs where u can work without those requirements. How much can u earn from that? Just enuf to feed ur stomach? U cant buy new clothes. U cant support a family etc..
Also, what abt in case u want to help the poor, u want to do sadaqah, u want to start a charity fund etc.. where do u earn the money for that?
For example, u r ignorant of ur religion, and u want to learn about Islam. How do u buy ur resources? No money for books? No money for an audio cassette?
U want to travel for Hajj. Where do u get the money for the ticket? Where do u get the money for ur stay? etc...
These are not wordly gains? These do not determine ur survival?
In fact even food u have to 'earn'...
I was not refering to a 'posh' life

hey can i add something...there's nothing islmically wrong with living a posh life as long as you dont get too extravagant and start wasting without meaning...also as long as you dont let this money obsession get in the way of other things.
If Allah SWT has (razaqak) given you enough money so its okay to spend it in halal on ursef and ur family.

It is definetly 'very' hard to get halaal money. I agree. But its not impossible. And running away from it isnt the solution to anything.
